I had a student get sick in my room. I teach K. I called the office. They said they’d send a custodian. Awesome. We were on our way to lunch so…… (yes, I also called thie student’s mother who did come pick her up ) Returned to the room after lunch. Vomit still there. I called the office. Reply: “interesting” Custodian returned. I watched him wander around my classroom. I had to SHOW him there vomit. He sprinkled that powder stuff. Left. Now, it was all over the sink, the counter, etc. It was beginning to reek. I got up. Grabbed a garbage bag and a roll of paper towels. I cleaned it up myself. No gloves. Nothing. I told him we were all going to be throwing up if it didn’t get clean. There had been a stack of journals on the counter. I threw all of them away. Honestly – I had to clean up vomit. My job sucks.

Same thing happened to me. Kinder teacher too. We were “short” custodians so I was expected to “throw paper towels on it.” Our school has been out of paper towels since the beginning of the school year (I have been supplying my own). I evacuated the classroom and didn’t touch the puke. I was deemed difficult for refusing to clean it up.
