I’m a Canadian teacher. It’s nice to think this won’t happen here, but it will. We have kids threatening to kid themselves and others daily. I had a student threaten to stab another student once. Thank goodness my admin wasn’t too afraid to search his “private property” (aka backpack) where she found a knife. He was in grade four.

Canadian, too. I have lots of American friends saying “oh there’s lots of jobs down here…you should move!” HA! Over my cold, dead body!

It is coming here, too (as you know it always does…we’re always just a few years behind the US, as evidenced by the teucker convoy ????) the terrible behaviour, terrible parenting, lack of consequences, no respect for teachers.
I’m an older new-ish teacher and re-trained only a few years ago, but I’m already looking for an exit strategy!

I feel sad to hear that. We just visited Vancouver and I was pleasantly surprised to see playgrounds delineated by a rope tied to teees in a park, and had a conversation with a parent who said they felt safe in school. I was truly considering an exit strategy from the US when the fascism/authoritarianism of 2024 takes over and was hoping for Canada. But it looks like that isn’t going to be an option by
    then, huh? ????
