This is my 14th year of teaching. It’s the worst group of students I have ever experienced. In addition, I’ve had some pretty nasty health issues (all well documented) and have currently missed the last week and a half due to a hospital stay resulting from a bacterial infection (which still has yet to be resolved). The principal contacted me today to inform me about a parent who has rallied her friends to come after me at a board meeting and another public parent/admin meeting this week. They are demanding the last 10 years of my records because they don’t like that I have missed school this year. In spite of my absences, I still have over 70 sick days left, all of my absences are legit, and I have never once failed to post sub plans (I’m a perfectionist who always follows rules). The ringleader of all of this had their kid suspended for 10 days after threatening to kill a classmate last semester (and today her other kid was suspended). Every one of the students from this group of parents have behavioral referral lists a mile long for years now. I have been begging for support from admin all year but they have done nothing (even though I have reported instances of things such bullying that I witnessed and assault from this group). The only consequence anyone has been issued so far this year is one kid getting one lunch detention last month. The union has my back and my coworkers are disgusted by all of this. Is there any recourse or support for teachers who are individually or collectively harassed by parents? Why are they allowed to be like this? I never saw myself doing anything besides teaching but I’m afraid I hit my limit today and I feel so defeated. This entire year has taken a massive toll on my mental health. I’m just at a total loss and could really use some encouragement and support.

Where I work, nobody is legally entitled to any personnel records, so I assume it is the same where you work. Let me take a guess at your situation… you tried to discipline these children, or gave them a grade their parents did not agree with, so now they are attacking you. Do you have a legal plan as part of your benefits package? I would definitely contact someone. I’m not sure if you can get a cease and desist letter, or something similar to stop the harassment. It’s definitely a hostile work environment that you should not be forced to endure.
